The On-Q pain management system relieves pain following plastic surgery without the use of oral or IV drugs. While narcotic painkillers affect the whole body and can cause nausea and drowsiness, the On-Q pain relief system slowly pumps a local anesthetic directly to the surgical incision site to numb the area.

While you are still under general anesthesia immediately following your plastic surgery procedure, Dr. Pittman-Waller inserts a tiny tube near the incision site through which local anesthetic (a pain-numbing medication similar to novocaine) is automatically delivered to the surgical area. The medication is delivered slowly and continuously for up to five days after surgery for effective pain relief without the side effects of oral or IV medication. The system is easily and painlessly removed when it is no longer needed.
